“They set the tone for an enchanting evening under the stars with their lovely music.”
“The Green Jazz Band delivers! They were professional, helpful and knowledgeable and spent extra time consulting with us on our wine tasting and marketing event. Band members arrived early on the night of the event and were very organized. They sound wonderful, top notch! Guests did not want to leave. Sally has a beautiful voice! We are so glad to have discovered them. We look forward to bringing them back on a regular basis.”

vibes
We believe our shows are an opportunity for people to connect through music.
Every performance brings a spirit of joy, heart, and sophistication — whether in an intimate café or a grand ballroom.

Sally Terrell & THE GREEN JAZZ BAND BREATHE LIFE INTO CLASSIC JAZZ PIECES AND BRIDGE TIME AND EMOTION, CREATING A MUSICAL YERBA MATÉ THAT YOU CAN SIP OR SMASH.

OUR STORY
Green as organic.
An Earth Day event in 2014.
We grew organically, starting with our passion for jazz.
Since then, The Green Jazz Band has been bringing good energy and fresh interpretations of classic jazz to audiences across Connecticut and beyond — from parties and art openings to libraries and summer festivals, from retirement communities to corporate events.
We play it all: classics from the Great American Songbook, cool bossa nova, jazzed-up blues and pop. Whatever the vibe, we adapt — duet, trio, quartet, or full quintet — always with style, heart, and swing.
We’ve lit up stages at the Wadsworth Atheneum of Art, the Northwest Lewiston Jazz Festival, Earthstock Connecticut, the Collinsville HOT Festival and Music on Main Series, the Gershon Fox Ballroom, the Society Room, and the Vitrano Jazz Series.
Over ten years on, the music’s still growing — organically, of course.
Sally Terrell
Terrell began a lifelong love affair with piano and singing at age six, poking out melodies alongside her father, a classically trained pianist and jazz aficionado who passed along his love of music while discovering his youngest daughter could play and sing by ear. After a successful career as a college writing teacher, Terrell began singing professionally when she and husband John Sarlo formed Sally Terrell and the Green Jazz Band. “Blue Piano,” her first recorded original on her debut album Just in Time (2019), pays tribute to her musical roots. The originals on her pandemic-themed sophomore release, Feel Alive (2023), establish her bona fides as a singer-songwriter and an intuitive gift for sharing the timeless stories of the Great American Songbook. Terrell also sings with her own quartet (see Sally Terrell Music) and is the vocalist for the Pratt & Whitney Screaming Eagles Big Band.

Mike Milner · Horns
Milner started playing with big bands in his early teens, sharing the stage in college workshops with Maynard Ferguson, Mercer Ellington and Lionel Hampton. After performing with rock, reggae, top 40 and funk bands (most recently Hip Joint), Mike joined Sally Terrell and the Green Jazz Band in 2014; he is also president and tenor and alto saxophonist for the Pratt & Whitney Screaming Eagles Big Band.
Kevin O’Neil · Guitar
O’Neil , whose propulsive style and technical virtuosity landed him on a world tour and several recordings with legendary saxophonist and NEA Jazz Master Anthony Braxton, established him as a force in avant-garde jazz. He earned his undergraduate degree from the Hartt School of Music, a master’s from Wesleyan University, and a PhD in music composition from University of Southampton in England. He is a professor of music and creativity at Southern Connecticut State University teaches at the Essex, CT-based Community Music School. Kevin joined the band in 2015.

John Sarlo · Bass
Sarlo has had a passion for music since his youth, playing trumpet, baritone horn, trombone, and guitar. He played trombone with the UConn Marching Band and later performed with rock and top 40 bands before coming back to his true home playing bass and jazz standards. He formed Sally Terrell and the Green Jazz Band in 2010 and plays bass with the Pratt & Whitney Screaming Eagles Big Band.
Christopher Petersen · Drums
Petersen has been a clarinetist and a drummer since his youth. Christopher was a member of the Band of the Fighting Irish, Symphonic Winds, and Jazz Bands while at the University of Notre Dame, performing across the country during athletic events, tours, and concerts. Under the mentorship of Jim Catalano, Christopher developed a deep appreciation for big band drumming. Now an aerospace engineer for Pratt & Whitney, Christopher has performed with the Screaming Eagles Big Band, and he joined Sally Terrell and the Green Jazz Band in 2024.

“The Green Jazz Band was the perfect addition to our wedding day.
They had played a beautiful set at my sister’s wedding two years ago and so I was excited to book them for ours.”

“The event just wouldn’t have been the same without them!
So much more than simple background music – they got people dancing which is no small feat!”
